Donations on WordPress, with Gift Aid included.

A donation plugin for WordPress needs a form, a payment account and, for a UK charity, a way to take Gift Aid declarations and claim the tax back from HMRC. Check whether the plugin takes a percentage, and whether Gift Aid is included or sold extra.

Give² is the donation plugin we’re planning, with Gift Aid included and nothing taken from any donation. We’re building it next, and it’s not available yet.

01What we’re building

  • Donation forms for charities and community groups.
  • Gift Aid declarations and HMRC claim exports, included rather than sold as an add-on.
  • No percentage taken from any donation.

That’s the plan so far, and it’s deliberately short. We’ll add to this page as the scope is settled, and we won’t list a feature here before we’ve decided to build it.

02Gift Aid

A summary of HMRC’s guidance, checked 25 October 2026. It isn’t tax advice: read GOV.UK, and ask your accountant about your own claims.

GOV.UK says a charity or community amateur sports club (CASC) can claim back 25p every time an individual donates £1. Only organisations recognised by HMRC as a charity or CASC can claim, and the donor must have paid at least as much Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax that tax year as the Gift Aid claimed on their gifts.

What a declaration has to say

The donor gives permission with a Gift Aid declaration. According to GOV.UK, it must include:

  • the name of your charity or CASC;
  • the donor’s full name, and full home address including the postcode;
  • a description of the gift;
  • that the donor has paid the same amount or more in Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax in that tax year, and agrees to Gift Aid being claimed.

A donor who doesn’t live in the UK is marked as a “non-UK donor”. GOV.UK says to keep a record of declarations for 6 years after the most recent donation you claimed Gift Aid on.

Making the claim

Claims go to HMRC through Charities Online, using eligible software or a spreadsheet of your donations. Claims of more than 1,000 donations must use software. You claim within 4 years of the end of the financial period the donation was received in.

For a website, that means the donation form has to collect the right details at the moment of giving, store the declaration with the donation, and give you something to send HMRC. That’s the part Give² is meant to make routine. Read GOV.UK’s guide to claiming Gift Aid.

03Choosing a plugin

  • The fee on top. Some donation plugins add their own percentage to your payment provider’s fees, often only on the free version or one payment method.
  • Gift Aid. Is it in the plugin, in a paid add-on, or only on a higher plan?
  • Recurring donations. If you rely on monthly giving, check which plan includes it.
  • Whose account the money reaches. It should be your own, with payouts on your provider’s terms.
  • Getting your data out. Donor records and declarations should export cleanly, because you’ll need them for years.

GiveWP today

GiveWP has 100,000+ active installs on WordPress.org. Its Stripe documentation, updated 22 October 2026, says the free Stripe gateway charges an additional 2% on one-time donations, and that PayPal donations aren’t affected.

GiveWP’s pricing and Gift Aid add-on pages on givewp.com now redirect to Liquid Web, which sells Give in a bundle with The Events Calendar, LearnDash and Kadence, from $350 for one site. That page doesn’t say how often the price is charged, and we didn’t find Gift Aid mentioned on it (all checked 25 October 2026).

04How it’ll be sold

Give² will be sold the way Calendar² is: a free plugin on WordPress.org that does the job properly, and a Pro licence for the extras some sites need. There’s no price yet, and we won’t publish one until there is something to buy.

  • You pay for the licence and nothing else: no commission, no paid support tier.
  • No upsell banners or “Powered by” credits in your dashboard or on your site.
  • The free version is complete. Pro adds features; it doesn’t unlock the ones every site needs.
  • It will be benchmarked against GiveWP, and the method published with the results so you can repeat it.

Read the licensing rules we hold every ² plugin to.

05The suite

Give² is planned to work with Tickets²: donations on ticket orders are planned to come through it.
